Circle Symphony
'Circle Symphony' is a site specific performance that takes an autobiographical twist on traditional maypole dancing. 12 dancers perform a 20-minute maypole dance slowed down to a 2-hour routine. From the communal act we will highlight the individual performer and all that lies beneath the surface of the perfect, polished choreography. The dancers are united in their routine but listen to a personally chosen soundtrack – their favourite song on loop over 2 hours – via headphones.
The audience members obtained mp3 players and could choose a dancers soundtrack to listen into as they moved. There were varying levels of audience engagement including pushing a pram and through headphones following the instructions of a hidden guide.
